The objective of this research has been to characterize myocardial remodeling and to evaluate the survival associated with cardiac disease due to atheromatosis (internal injuries to arteries that are indicators of cardiovascular risk, using an animal model of mice fed a diet rich in saturated fat that they develop severe atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, ischemic complications, and heart failure, with high mortality. In this group, survival was reduced by almost 50% compared to the control group, and significant increase in cardiac mass and relative lung weight, in addition to increased cardiac fibrosis and programmed death of heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) The research group concluded that it is possible that parietal edema may also be a relevant remodeling mechanism in this animal model.
